The IE (I) - PUDUCHERRY MIT STUDENTS CHAPTER (MECHANICAL)
The IEI Students’ Chapter of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, inaugurated on 14 February 2014 as the first such chapter in the Puducherry region, has consistently fostered academic excellence, professional development, and industrial exposure.
The chapter received the prestigious IEI Best Student Chapter Award (2022–23) and achieved national recognition through a Bronze Medal at the 24th IE(I) National Convention, Pune for the project “Improving the Efficiency of Solar Panel by Water Cooling” by J. Premkumar (Final Year Mechanical), which was highly appreciated by the IEI Puducherry State Centre and MIT management. Major initiatives include two national-level seminars “Advances in Nanotechnology for Sustainable Development” and “Advanced/Smart Materials: Synthesis, Characterization & Applications” featuring eminent experts from ISRO, PTU, and leading research institutions. The chapter conducts annual flagship observances such as Engineers’ Day, World Engineering Day, World Habitat Day, World Standards Day, and World Environment Day, reinforcing professional ethics, global engineering relevance, and sustainability awareness.
Students actively participate in technical quizzes, paper/poster presentations, technical chart displays, innovation contests, and major project expos such as SCIMIT 2024, which showcased 175+ interdisciplinary projects, and SCIMIT 2025, which has also been successfully completed as an expanded national-level innovation and project expo. Industrial visits to SEA BLUE Shipyard, HMT Machine Tools, INFAC India, Appasamy Ocular Devices, and other engineering industries strengthen hands-on learning and employability. The chapter’s strong outreach culture is reflected through environmental rallies, electricity-conservation campaigns, and large-scale school-level drawing competitions involving 200–300 students annually.
